Edward Jones and Sam Webster are the latest additions to the stable of Accelerate Driver Development (ADD), meaning that the driver-management group now has its complete roster of four young racing talents for 2010.
Karters Jones, 14, and Webster, 13, join Formula 3 ace Oliver Oakes and Formula Renault racer Robert Foster-Jones at ADD, which is overseen by renowned motorsport gurus Graeme Glew, John Byfield and Keiran Crawley.
Jones will continue to race in the highly-competitive KF3 karting class, run by Crawley’s Zanardi Kart-equipped MSport team. A British national, he was born in Dubai and continues to live in the United Arab Emirates. He is a multiple UAE karting champion and this year has impressed during his first forays into the European scene.
Webster, from the Dorset town of Weymouth, is stepping up from the Cadet class to also race in KF3. He has taken numerous race wins in Cadets, was chosen for the prestigious Young Guns team, and this year was the winner of the Clay Pigeon Kart Club’s championship for the highest-placed club member competing at a national level.
Crawley, who is famed for being the former karting mechanic of 2008 Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton, said: “I’ve been really impressed with the performances of both Edward and Sam and believe that they have what it takes to make a mark as professional racing drivers of the future, which is what all young karters want to be.
“Now that they are under the umbrella of ADD, Graeme, John and I will be able to make sure their careers are on the right track and that they won’t fall victim to the pitfalls that hamper so many promising drivers. My experience in karting, and Graeme’s and John’s in car racing, will give them the best possible chances of making it.”
