No points in the feature nor sprint races for Zuber this time in the Budapest GP2 Series

It was not baking hot any longer on the Budapest track. The qualifying session temperature that had gone as high as 41°C on Thursday had  dropped to a reasonable 23°C. for race 1 and 26°C for race 2.

Qualifying: 8th Place - 1.28.465
Race 1:  DNF
Race 2: start 22nd Place
Race 2: finish 17th Place
20 points in the Championship

UAE driver Andreas Zuber made his 69th start in the sprint race from an 8th position on the grid but his hopes for a good finish were dashed at the second turn. In Race 2 Zuber started his 70th race in 22nd position and finished 17th.

Zuber had a good start for the 28 laps of the shorter Sunday race 2 despite the engine stalling for a few short seconds. Then Zuber gained two positions and later two additional places when Rigon, the pole man, following an incident with Maldonado, withdrew. Later Herck's race was also put to an end. Nothing could stop Zuber, even not the narrow track. On lap 8 Zuber passed D'Ambrosio. But then Zuber’s progression was stopped behind a group of drivers including Alberto Valerio (Piquet GP), Sergio Perez and teammate Luiz Razia. At least he finished the race in 17th position.

Zuber has scored four top ten starts in five feature races heading into this weekend and scored 20 points for the Championship. The highest placed driver in the championship without a race victory this year, Zuber finished third and sixth in the 2007 Hungaroring races with iSport, and added a second place finish last year in 2008 with Piquet Sports, so he was confident of a strong showing again this weekend.

Andreas Zuber: "I was optimistic heading into the Hungaroring for the fourth time in my career, remembering the good races I had last year. In first practice, an electronic misfire ruined the engine timing and delayed us for fifteen minutes, which was half of our practice time. A sparkplug is a small part but an important detail. I was hoping to qualify in the top six but only managed 8th place for the 42 lap long race in the very hot afternoon conditions. In the race itself we passed the first turn OK, but then the second one did not forgive us and I was pushed from the back by Petrov and out of the race onto the grass.

In race 2, I wanted a strong start, but the engine stalled at the start. I finished the race which was the main thing. For me, the car was in good shape and the rest of the race was trouble free allowing me to set a good pace. There was a safety car twelve laps before the end of the race. I just could not do anything better to improve my possibility of overtaking on this tricky track. A pity! I could not score points here, but at least I finished the race.'
