SWEDE STORCKENFELDT STARS AT THRUXTON

Alex Storckenfeldt proved to be the star of Formula Renault UK Championship with Michelin qualifying at Thruxton Circuit today(Sat), the Team AKA sensation setting NGK Laser Platinum Pole Position for the third and fourth rounds of the season.

In the first of the day’s 20-minute sessions, which would determine the grid for this afternoon’s round three, Storckenfeldt lapped with a best time of 1m 09.953 seconds (121.24mph) to take pole position by more than three 10ths of a second.

Fortec Motorsport’s Sebastian Hohenthal once again cemented his form as a very rapid qualifier with a time of 1m 10.307 seconds, and in doing so ensured it would be an all Swedish front-row for the first of the weekend’s races.

Team Firstair’s Sean McIntosh, who won the second round of the season at Donington Park, will start from fifth spot while Tom Kimber-Smith (Wokingham, Berkshire) lines up alongside the Canadian.

Manor’s Rodolfo Gonzalez (Attleborough, Norfolk) was another to produce the goods in the weekend’s opening qualifying session, the Venezuelan taking seventh place on the grid, while Fortec’s Stuart Hall (Halstead, Essex) was eighth fastest.

In qualifying for tomorrow’s fourth round of the championship Storckenfeldt once again proved to be the in-form driver with pole position, although Jarvis pushed him harder with a lap less than two 10ths of a second slower to earn a place on the front-row.

McIntosh starts from third position while Manor’s Patrick Hogan (Killiney, Co.Dublin), winner of the opening round of the season at Donington Park, made amends for a disappointing 11th quickest time in the first session with fourth position on the grid for Sunday’s race.

Scorpio Motorsport’s Will Bratt (Adderbury, Oxon) produced a superb lap of 1m 11.384 seconds to finish best of the B4 Group Graduate Cup qualifiers for round three, taking 17th position overall, while local teenager Jeremy Metcalfe (Fleet, Hampshire) was the fastest class runner in session two with the 21st quickest time for Welch Motorsport.

Round three of the 2005 Formula Renault UK Championship with Michelin takes place this afternoon, Saturday, 30th April, at 17.55 with the fourth round of the season scheduled to take place at 13.55 tomorrow, Sunday, 1st May.
